World Food Day – October 16th, 2014

Today is the day that can help combat World Hunger, World Food Day, and the World Food Programme is of course leading the campaign for #ZeroHunger.

This year the theme of World Food Day is “Family Farming: Feeding the world, caring for the earth,” which is meant to shine a light on small, family farms and give a special shout out to them for their daily contribution to the goal of Zero Hunger.

Today WFP’s Philippines Country Director, Praveen Agrawal, spoke to the needs in the Philippines saying “The Philippines, having been ravaged by a series of typhoons annually and lately by Typhoon Yolanda, it is important that we work with small-scale farmers through family farms to help address their food insecurity.”

The three main ways WFP believes the world can combat hunger is by providing Nutritional Support, School Meals, and Help for Poor Farmers. We are happy to share with you that our partner in the Philippines does all three of those! They have Nutrition programs which welcome international volunteers, provide daily feedings to sponsored children and children at high risk of malnutrition, and they support poor farmers through various community programs, both for their families and for their fields.

The GoAbroad Foundation supports the Zero Hunger Challenge by initiating our Rice Subsidy Program, which helps supply monthly rice subsidies to low-income families with multiple children, whose main source of income comes from farming.

For just $5 USD, you can provide a child with 1 Monthly Rice Subsidy. Please join us in the Zero Hunger Challenge and Donate Now.

We also encourage you to sign the WFP Pledge. For each signature (literally just a signature, NO DONATION REQUIRED) Knorr will donate 1 meal to a child in need in the Philippines, Kenya, or Indonesia.
