One of our New Years Resolution’s for 2015 is to bring to light nonprofit organizations that are doing extraordinary things around the world. By showcasing an especially unique organization each month, we hope to further their reach and support their mission for changing the world.
For the month of January, we have select Sing Me A Story, whose “mission is to bring a voice to voiceless children throughout the world.” Sing Me A Story is a place where children’s stories are made in to songs that can be shared with the world.
Stories may be written by a child in the Philippines, a teen in Africa, or an orphan in Costa Rica, Sing Me A Story has partners around the globe. From Malawi to Salt Lake City, to Bangkok to Ethiopia, children’s stories are collected by local nonprofit partners and posted on Sing Me A Story’s website.
Next comes songwriting and the development of powerful musical creations that go beyond telling a story, and additionally provide financial support to the children and partners who wrote them. Musicians small and large can join Sing Me A Story by making innocent children’s stories into songs.
Our very own partner Volunteer for the Visayans recently became one of Sing Me A Story’s partners and multiple songs by the VFV kids in the Philippines have been made in to songs. You can listen to the songs here: http://singmeastory.org/partners/visayans/songs (all song purchases support VFV as well as Sing Me A Story’s mission).
