The Real Uganda
Beneficiary Organization Partner
Founded in 2005, The Real Uganda is a grassroots nonprofit organization based in the heart of Uganda. The Real Uganda was founded to inspire and support community-led initiatives, while also giving international volunteers the opportunity to experience Uganda in all its glory. Leslie Weighill, who founded The Real Uganda over a decade ago, is originally from Canada but now lives full-time in Uganda working to maintain and expand The Real Uganda's programs and services in local communities.
The Real Uganda Continues to Monitor the Situation
As of June 28th, 2021, Uganda is under a 6 week lockdown to stop the spread of coronavirus. The Hot Lunch Feedback program was set to resume on August 9th, but with the opening of the new academic year being pushed back to September 20th, the feedings may also be delayed in resuming. They are still working to confirm when their other educational programs can resume.
The Real Uganda Projects We Support
Hot Lunch Feeding Program
By offering hot lunches for free to students at Nalusse Success Primary School in Mukono, The Real Uganda has helped increase enrollment, improve attendance, and help more students be successful in their studies.
Mobile Solar Classroom Project
The Real Uganda is partnering with a local nonprofit, the Maendeleo Foundation, to bring a Mobile Solar Computer Classroom (MSCC) to 10,000 more Ugandan students by 2024 for less than $30 per student.
Women & Girls Skill Training Initiative
The continued impact of COVID-19 on income generation and formal education opportunities has increased the burden on The Real Uganda’s local partners, so they aim to expand their capacity to reach more young people in new ways.
Virtual Digital Skills Training & Child Engagement Project
