September 5th, 2017 marks the 4th annual International Day of Charity, also referred to as World Charity Day. Established in 2013, the United Nations created this day to honor the death anniversary of one of the most well-known humanitarians and philanthropists in history.
The International Day of Charity is a day to honor the selfless character of Mother Teresa, her incredible dedication to help those in need and the impact she made on the world which will last far beyond her death. On this day, people around the world are encouraged to contribute to charity in some way, and become a part of the change that is needed to improve the lives of future generations.
As the world has been turned upside down by civil violence, religious conflict, natural disasters, government corpution, and numerous power struggles, we must turn to simple acts of kindness to make a difference in our own communities. The International Day of Charity is a day for every individual to step up and do their part to make a positive impact on the world.
On this International Day, I call on people everywhere to volunteer and act charitably in the face of human suffering. Such expressions of solidarity help us in our shared quest to live together in harmony and build a peaceful and sustainable future for all. – Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary General 2015
To commemorate this year’s International Day of Charity, we invite you to take a moment to join the GoAbroad Foundation’s mission to help those in need by commmiting an act of charity.
