We are happy to announce the winners of the GoAbroad.com Innovation in Philanthropy Award sponsored by the GoAbroad Foundation. Winners will be annouced on May 28th at the GoAbroad reception following the 2015 NAFSA Annual Conference in Boston, MA.
• Athena Study Abroad’s S.O.S. Program –
Athena developed S.O.S. to ensure that charity is incorporated at the heart of our programs, students, and organization. S.O.S. has four important components: scholarship funds reserved for charity minded students, frequent Athena staff community service, student-selected donations various world charities, and sponsorship of charitable events and projects.
• Foundation for International Education – London to South Sudan: Partnership with Marol Academy –
Since 2008, FIE has raised and donated $28000 to the Marol Academy, a California-based non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting sustainable education in South Sudan, the world’s newest country.
• Fund For Education Abroad for Increasing Participation Inside and Outside of the Field –
More than 200 study abroad advocates raised over $50,000 for underserved, often first-generation college students in celebration of International Education Week during the fourth annual reception of the Fund for Education Abroad (FEA).
• Semester At Sea for Collaboration with TOMS Community –
In collaboration with TOMS Shoes, students on the Spring 2014 Semester at Sea voyage joined a worldwide community to recognize One Day Without Shoes by going barefoot. The act symbolized the problem of shoelessness around the globe.
• Rustic Pathways’ Peru Sacred Valley Water Project –
…a project that will provide safe and reliable drinking water to over 1,000 people in five villages in the Peruvian Andes.
