GoAbroad Foundation: #GAFGive21 End of the Year Fundraiser Recap

We are extremely grateful to each and every person who donated to the GoAbroad Foundation’s #GAFGive21 Fundraiser. While we didn’t reach our goal, we were still able to raise funds for each of our participating Beneficiary Organizations to use for their projects.

The funds raised during the #GAFGive21 Fundraiser will be used for the following purposes:

African Education Program will be using funds to support the Read for Rose Special Education Program. The Read for Rose program is for children with disabilities and special needs who live in AEP’s local community in Kafue, Zambia. Due to high levels of stigma, these children are too often overlooked and marginalized. The services provided at Read for Rose include academic tutoring, basic life skills training, and counseling for both the children and their parents.

The Real Uganda will use the funds to support the Girls Get Skills program which was launched in September of 2021. The program brings practical and transformative education to teen girls. Beyond practical skills training, program goals are to increase self-esteem and decision-making skills and prevent early marriage and pregnancy in teen girls. Graduates of the Girls Get Skills program are ensured to have a full toolbox to build productive and meaningful lives, no matter where their futures take them. Girls Get Skills training courses are both accessible to young rural women, and affordable to deliver. They provide practical, income-earning skills that can be used at home.

Volunteer for the Visayans will use the funds to support children who lost their sponsors due to the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic. Volunteer for the Visayans Child Sponsorship program provides social and educational support services to children from low-income families throughout the island of Leyte in the Philippines. The LivingMusicFoundation, an organization in Uganda that provides music lessons for children who are economically or socially challenged and/or lacking family and community support, will use the funds raised from the #GAFGive21 Fundraiser to purchase new equipment for their band. This will allow them to tour more, reach more individuals, and make a bigger impact in their community.

DAKTARI Bush School & Wildlife Orphanage, which aims to educate and inspire the local children to value their environment and stimulate community development, will use the funds to support their mission and provide food and care for the wildlife orphanage, educate African children about the environment, and provide outreach to the communities.

Refugee Welfare Association Cameroon (REWAC), based in Cameroon, is an organization that addresses issues related to the systematic violations of the rights of vulnerable migrants. REWAC will use the funds to give emergency support to 100 teenage mothers (IDPs) and refugees impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Elephant Livelihood Initiative Environment (ELIE)’s has a mission to “improve the captive elephant’s health and welfare situation by the development of an elephant sanctuary while providing province-wide veterinary care and associated social support programs for the Bunong people.”  Funds raised from the #GAFGive21 Fundraiser will be used to support the vision and mission of ELIE.

COREDA’s mission is empowering and sustainably improving the living conditions of children, women, vulnerable youths, and disadvantaged rural and indigenous forest communities in Cameroon. COREDA will use the donations from the #GAFGive21 Fundraiser to provide additional school furniture, essential textbooks for the school, and school meals.

Because of our donors, we were able to give a little bit of support to each of these amazing organizations. They are providing such wonderful aid to their communities, and because you donated, you were able to help them.

So a huge Thank You to all of our donors, from the bottom of our hearts! We appreciate you and wish you all the best in 2022.
