Overview

In rural communities in the Philippines, it is not uncommon to see families living in makeshift houses constructed of scrap material. These houses – shacks would be a more accurate description – have dirt floors, crumbling walls, and leaky roofs. When it rains heavily, which happens often during rainy season, the family members try to keep dry under tarpaulins.
Through its Build-A-Home project, Volunteer for the Visayans is attempting to help those whose homes are unsafe physically and environmentally. In 2010, VFV was fortunate to complete three build-a-home projects whilst in 2011 VFV already plans to construct five.
