Overview
The Philippines is a country in the Pacific Region of South East Asia with an estimated population of 94 million people. It is a country rich in ecological beauty, boasting lively coral reefs, dense tropical jungles and awe-inspiring mountains, not to mention a warm and friendly local population.
However, despite its pleasing aesthetics, the Philippines suffers from a number of socioeconomic issues that have been exacerbated by years of economic decline, political instability and corruption. As a result the country suffers from a number of issues such as underfunded social welfare, education and public health services as well as an at-risk ecosystem.
According to the country’s National Statistical Coordination Board, the Philippines has approximately 26 million people living beneath the country’s poverty line, making less than one dollar a day.
GoAbroad Foundation Projects in the Philippines
The GoAbroad Foundation support the diligent work of Volunteer for the Visayans and provides logistical fundraising support for a number of its community based empowerment projects.
You can support one of the following projects in the Philippines through Volunteer for the Visayans and the GoAbroad Foundation.
The Dumpsite Project – A project that seeks to rehabilitate children working or previously working in Tacloban City dump by giving them the means to pursue mainstream education through the provision of school fees, school supplies and close social welfare support.
By supporting the Dumpsite Project through the GoAbroad Foundation, you can help restore dignity and help pave a future for some of the world’s most disadvantaged children.
The Build-A-Home Project – A project that builds houses for low income families living in unsafe and uncomfortable living environments.
Having to sleep on dirt floors or persevere with leaking roofs is too much of a reality for disadvantaged families in the Philippines. The GoAbroad Foundation hopes to provide low-income communities with the means to live in safe and sustainable living conditions, without the family having to worry if their house will make it through another typhoon season.
Supplementary Feeding & Nutrition Project – A project that aims to address the undernourished status of Filipino infants whilst also promoting the importance of nutrition and healthy diet.
Public health concerns such as diabetes, chronic heart disease, vitamin deficiency and infant malnutrition continue to raise cause for alarm in the Philippines. The GoAbroad Foundation hopes to not only improve the health status of preschool children, but also wishes to improve the levels of public awareness regarding the importance of healthy nutrition.
