Project Overview

The importance of women in the developing world has been a topic of hot date for international development experts who are beginning to consistently identify that the empowerment of women is becoming increasingly important to breaking the cycle of poverty in the developing world.
As a result of this belief, ProWorld Peru is investing in women as a means for them to improve the economic and social conditions for their families and communities. In order to do this, ProWorld Peru has helped to form four women’s artisanal groups.
These groups are made up from Peruvian women from rural communities who are taught a wide range of various artisanal skills such as jewelry-making and knitting. The produce from these group meetings are sold to tourist groups and local hotels in order to increase their income and ultimately improve their families living conditions.
The group also serves a means for women to escape from their daily routines, to socialize with others, to learn new skills and to promote stronger self-esteem and tighter-knit communities.
The GoAbroad Foundation supports the diligent work of ProWorld Peru and hopes to raise awareness about the success of the groups and to also help siphon funding.
