Current Projects

GoAbroad Foundation supports the following projects:

Volunteer for the Visayans

Volunteer for the Visayans has three major programs - each supporting projects for children, families, community, and the environment.

Three girls at dumpsite

Sponsorship Program conducts tutorial and feeding sessions, regular medical check ups, and educational tours for sponsored kids, and livelihood training for the kids’ parents.

Volunteers at Eco-Farm

Community Center Program offers free dance classes, arts classes, and education support program to children. The program also has Adopt-a-School and Build-a-Home, among many other projects, which impacts communities in and around the city.

Volunteer Program has recently started the development of an organic eco-farm that will involve volunteers interested in agriculture, employ local farmers, and feed sponsored kids with organic produce from the farm. Proceeds from the CD project, a compilation of original songs composed and recorded for free by local bands and promoted by volunteers, will send 22 dumpsite children to grade school. To house the free dance classes for children, the Volunteer Program is set to build a Dance Studio that will accommodate children and dance teacher volunteers.

Clean Burning Stove Project

A majority of the rural agricultural population in the Sacred Valley of Peru cooks indoors over an open fire without adequate ventilation. Families in these homes inhale a dangerous amount of smoke, the second leading health concern in Peru for its poor populations. The use of wood for fuel leads to deforestation of highland forests, threatening ecosystem sustainability and the lives of rural villagers.

Woman near earth stove

In order to address health issues related to inadequate ventilation and deforestation for fuel, ProWorld, through ProPeru, started the Clean Burning Stove Project. This stove, "cocina" in Spanish, is a modified and improved version of the stove that the Peruvians have been using for years. It utilizes minimal materials - bricks and homemade mud - and funnels the smoke out of the home. Simple technology, but the benefits are astounding:

For only US$15 a stove, ProWorld has installed 5,600 stoves since the inception of this project in 2003 - and the demand remains high. To support or participate hands-on in the stove project, email info@myproworld.com.
