Athena Study Abroad

GOABROAD FOUNDATION SPONSORING PARTNER

Athena Study Abroad was a study abroad program provider based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and founded by Stacy McKay Benander and her husband John in 2005. Offering study abroad programs in Europe, Asia, and Africa, Athena Study Abroad made giving back to the world one of their guiding principles.

Unfortunately due to the financial impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, Athena Study Abroad was forced to close their doors in mid-2020. We're disheartened to see our friends at Athena challenged so immensely by the pandemic, and we'll be forever grateful for their support over 3+ years of partnership.

Students Offering Support

One of the Athena Study Abroad’s charitable initiatives, the Students Offering Support (S.O.S.) program gives students the chance to donate a portion of their program fee with Athena’s selected charities, one of which is the GoAbroad Foundation. All donations made through the S.O.S. program support educational scholarships for college students in the Philippines through our Beneficiary Organization, Volunteer for the Visayans.
