We’re excited to introduce our very first Beneficiary Organization partner in Cambodia, Elephant Livelihood Initiative Environment (E.L.I.E)! Joining the Give Together Program officially at the end of 2019, E.L.I.E has given the GoAbroad Foundation a new avenue for supporting animal conservation and expanding our reach in Southeast Asia. Their dedication to elephant conservation and rehabilitation is commendable, especially in light of all the challenges 2020 has brought to the world, and we’re eager to help support their mission as much as possible.

How Our Partnership Began
As we began searching for incredible organizations to join our Give Together Program in mid-2019, we were particularly interested in nonprofit organizations aimed at supporting animal conservation, since historically we had focused our efforts on community development and education. When we came across E.L.I.E’s Elephant Valley Project in Cambodia, we knew they’d be a wonderful fit for our Beneficiary Organization partnership. After inviting them to apply for partnership and discussing the organization with Jemma, their Programs Director, we were more than excited to offer them the opportunity to join the Give Together Program as a Beneficiary Organization.
Elephant Livelihood Initiative Environment’s Mission
E.L.I.E. works to improve the welfare and well-being of captive elephants in Cambodia through their Elephant Valley Project. By running an elephant sanctuary focused on conserving elephants’ natural habitat, E.L.I.E. not only supports elephant rehabilitation, they also create job opportunities for the local people and educate the local community about environmental and elephant conservation.
What E.L.I.E.’s Projects Are in Need of Support?
Caring for 9 aging elephants in Cambodia isn’t cheap. In order to provide all the elephants in their care with the care, medical assistance, food, and natural habitat they need to live a peaceful life, E.L.I.E. must invest a great deal of time and money into their project. To help supplement their financial needs, they welcome tourists to their compound to teach them about elephants and the importance of environmental and animal conservation. E.L.I.E. is dedicated to expanding their reach in the community and supporting even more elephants in need of care and rehabilitation every year. To do our part, we’ve selected one of their aging elephants, Sambo, to support through our fundraising efforts.
